Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, East Timor and Macao (China) and is also spoken in parts of India, on the borders of countries bordering Brazil and in countries with Brazilian and Portuguese immigrant communities, such as the USA and Canada. It is the fifth most spoken language in the world with 250 million speakers. Moreover, according to UN figures, Portuguese will become the second European language to be spoken by the largest number of people in the world in the coming years. On the other hand, Brazil is becoming an economic locomotive.  The country's potential, with many natural resources and rapid growth, creates near-term and long-term jobs that require skilled labour. Portuguese is therefore a language that currently opens up many job opportunities. Finally, since the emergence of MERCOSUR, the relevance of Portuguese has been increasing and speaking the language correctly generates credit when closing business deals and therefore security in commercial and diplomatic activity.
